The Kingdom of Cambodia has a rich history, though much of what people remember is the tyrannic rule of the Khmer Rouge during the 1970's.  All of the literature we've found highlights the resilience and positivity of the people of Cambodia, and we're overjoyed to discover and share in their culture for twenty seven months.

Cambodia has approximately 14 million people, and 90% of the country is Khmer.  It was co opted by France as a colony in everything but name, but gained true independence in 1953.  The information from the Peace Corps places the adult literacy rate at just below 40%, with female literacy rates in the teens, but other guidebooks and information puts the total number closer to 60-70%.

Cambodia is in Southeast Asia, south of Thailand and Laos (and China) and west of Vietnam.  Its southwestern edge meets the Gulf of Thailand.

Cambodia has had many incarnations, and many flags, and its current one is the only national flag to feature a building, the Angkor Wat.
